After finalising his diploma in Viticulture in 1987, Alain continued his schooling and gained an Engineering diploma in 1991 (Wädenswil, Switzerland). He then trained at Yalumba Winery and Chateau Xanadu in Australia, at Saxenburg Winefarm in South Africa and worked in various Swiss wineries for the better part of a decade, refining his winemaking skills.
Since 2000 he has been a consulting winemaker at Globalwine (Zurich, Switzerland), travelling the globe as he assists clients in their winemaking endeavours as well as building brands and wineries from scratch.
Alain has consulted in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria, Hungary and Argentina, often receiving 95+ Parker Ratings for his clients.
When he isn’t active in the vineyards and wine cellars you will find Alain, a passionate mechanic, tinkering with his collection of vintage motorcycles and American muscle cars.
Dan del Gesso GC
Alain is my go-to winemaker when I have a question related to winemaking and winery tech. His skill, Zen Master demeanour and wealth of knowledge – and willingness to share it – make him the kind of guy you can count on no matter what.
And not to mention, his skills as an auto mechanic come in quite handy too when I’m in need of tips for my own vintage vehicles ;0)
